Oaklands School Statement of Purpose

Statement of Purpose 2017- 2018 May update.pdf

Oaklands Park is a very special Community School for children and young people who have complex learning difficulties. Our residences are part of the residential special school and operate with the National Minimum standards for Residential Special Schools. We can offer either termly or weekly resdiential placements within the normal school year. Our students are aged between 3 and 19 years, live in Devon and our neighbouring authorities Torbay and Plymouth.

We offer:
Day time education
Weekly boarding
Termly boarding

Our aim in class and residence is to provide a range of learning and care programmes which help children to develop important skills and to grow in confidence as individuals. Everything we do stems from their individual learning and care needs.

We have a over 100 staff who are all dedicated to making Oaklands Park a wonderful learning and caring environment. We have teachers, residential care workers, teaching assistants, a speech and language therapist and an occupational therapist. We have a school nurse, a pastoral support worker, administrative, catering and premises staff, all working on our campus on a daily basis.

The school has excellent facilities on campus as this website will demonstrate. We have a range of modern residences and classrooms (and some older ones, too!). On our site we have an indoor swimming pool, mud kitchen, forest wheel, sensory rooms, adventure play areas, woods and an allotment, music, art and technology facilities and much else besides. We have excellent links with local mainstream schools and colleges, and we make full use of the Dawlish Youth Centre for students during the day and in the evenings. Children and young people make the most of community based facilities, including horse riding and the donkey sanctuary, leisure centres, cafes, supermarkets and restaurants.

We are very proud of what we offer and what our young people can achieve. We very much follow the whole school ethos of

"everyday we live and learn together".
