Can I visit my child?
Yes, we have an open door policy and parents and family members are welcome to visit any time. However, we do ask for this to be arranged with the care staff to avoid any clashes with activities planned.
Can I phone whenever I like?
Yes, each residential area has their own direct line and you will be provided with this nunber when your child joins Oaklands Park. Chidren are also able to make calls to their family and friends. Children are also able to make calls to their family and friends.
Can I bring in my child’s own belongings such as bedding and toys?
Yes, bedrooms are always personalised and we welcome anything which will ease the transition from home to Oaklands Park.
What activities will they do?
We offer a range of activities from local walks, visiting parks to clip and climb and visiting local leisure centres. We have a ‘can do’ approach and will encourage participation in all activities with the right level of support.
How do you know what my child likes?
As part of the introduction to the residence, parents are asked to complete a care plan which is specific to their child and includes likes and dislikes, foods, bedtime routines, ways of communicating etc.
Do you work closely with the school staff?
Yes, we liaise closely with the school staff and through our working curriculum we provide a range of life, social, educational and recreational opportunities.
Are special diets catered for?
Yes, the kitchen do a very good job in providing a variety of food for special diets.
How do I make a compliment or complaint?
We encourage communication between school, residence and parents. As this is a two way process we would hope to deal with any issues as and when they arise, thus negating the need for a complaint. However, if you wish to make a complaint please contact either the Head of School or the Head of Care. Compliments are always welcome and can be made either in writing or verbally or using the Ofsted parent view.
